             Numeracy Rap

In Maths we learn to use our heads

To do the sums from day to day

Sometimes our fingers do the tricks

Sometimes we have to write in books

The calculator waits till late

T'ensure that we are well secured

In simple sums that come our way

Believe you me, we need the skill!

We chant our number bonds aloud!

And say out tables off by heart!

We learn to add, subtract and share

Multiplication is a must.

We're proud to say that Maths is fun

Because we have the right approach

We're not afraid to use our heads

To do the suns as they arise!

There's no escaping maths in life

We measure weights and lengths and time

And estimate the size of things

Belive you me we need the skills!

There's maths in every work of life

Bankers, teachers, traders and some

Doctors, pilots, tailors and all

Maths, maths, maths for all!

Maths Fun

Below are some comments from children at our school

Susanna McAlpine Year 1 aged 6.

We had a Maths day on Thursday. We had to dress up as something to do with maths.  I was wearing a tie with numbers on like take away and add and times. When I got to school I was surprised at all the nice costumes.  I laughed because I didn’t think the teachers would dress up but they did!   Year 1 teachers were dominoes and we had to work out the set. There were dice and ten green bottles as well.

We did the maths trail first. We had a clipboard and a sheet on it.  It said things like "go to the office and what number has it on the door?"  We had to go to the music room and count how many windows there were.  We had to go to the hall to see the counting caterpillar and write down the missing number.  We had to see how much money there was on the money washing line.   I liked counting the money best cos I like money and I’ve got £1.96

In assembly we had a competition for the best costume. After play our mums and dads came in and helped us play some maths games. We sang some number rhymes for our mums and dads.  In the afternoon we made up our own maths games.

I thought maths day was very fun and I wish every day was like that!
